The Race for the Top of Google Heats up

The race for the top spot of Google's Search Engine Results Page for keywords "Isulong SEOPH" intensifies. Contestants from all over the Philippines battle out for a piece P130,000 prize. A week into the contest, participants such as Jozzua (with this website Isulong SEOPH have offered creative ways to entice backlinks from visitors. He's offered to give prizes to charity, should he win.

"I don't care that much about the money." he explains. "I'm more interested in the educational value."

Visitors to his website could suggest a charitable institution. So far, institutions such as Caritas, Bukas Sarili Foundation, House of Refuge, and the Lasallian Institute For the Environment (LIFE) has been nominated.

The Isulong-SEOPH.net website has even developed a comic strip just for the contest. It features cartoons depicting characters interested in Search Engine Optimization. This is first among contest participants.

"We have to be creative to win." Jozzua explains.

The isulong SEOPH contest came about because of some heated debates on SEOPhilippines.org. SEOPhilippines.org is a community of web marketing enthusiasts - some experts, gurus and others - students and the curious. Several SEO experts argued on the viability of certain web marketing techniues. To appease the growing tension, a contest was officially launched. This gave the SEO enthusiasts a venue to showcase their talents and creativity.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a method in which a website is tweaked, edited, and linked-to so that it would reach the top of search engines based on keywords. For the contest whoever, would get top rank on Google.com.ph for the keywords "isulong seoph" by September 29,2006 will be declared winner.

The contest has even gained the attention of the Philippine Media.

By the end of the first week, over 30 official website entries joined the contest.
